| Property purchased in the late 1830's by John Seymour became the site in 1874 for the Seymour Lake United Methodist Church. Over the past 130 years a virtual galaxy of events -- marriages, church socials, funerals, community meetings, picnics, work bees, Vacation Bible Schools, concerts, as well as Sunday services -- have resonated within its walls and beyond its boundaries.
The many renovations over the years have made this a growing church, yet in appearance it retains much of the original charm of its pre-Civil War beginnings. In 1995, a mortgage-burning ceremony for an adjacent 9 1/2 acres reflected the commitment and passion of the people of SLUMC. This vision was made concrete in 2002 with the opening and consecration of our Worship and Fellowship Center. With the leadership of the many pastors in its long history, and many of the church's founding members among the current congregation's ancestry, it has remained a church of sturdy faith and compassionate community service: truly a church with Christ in its heart.
