SLUMCity Coffee House

SLUMCity held its final concert this past May. We've had a great run of concerts, but the time has come to bring down the curtain on our little coffee house. We'd like to send our thanks out to the performers who blessed us with their talents; the volunteers who kept the kitchen, sound, and lights going; and the patrons whose support made it possible.

The SLUMCity Committee

SLUMCity Coffee House is a community outreach activity of Seymour Lake United Methodist Church. We feature live music from local, national, and international acoustic acts.

Held monthly in the Seymour Lake UMC Worship & Fellowship Center, just five minutes north of  Pine Knob/ DTE Energy Theater, it's one of Metro Detroit's best kept secrets. [Click here for location and directions]

With a modest admission of $8, it's a great entertainment value!  This cover charge includes coffee and dessert, as well as some of the best live music you're likely to find anywhere in southeast Michigan.  So for both great entertainment and great eats,  come "Slumming" on a Saturday night!

Our Final Concert

Features Ann & Will Rowland

Ann and Will have been described as “folk music with punch”. No surprise. Will paid his musical dues playing in Rock and Country Bands throughout Michigan, while Ann could be heard playing for audiences across the north in coffee houses and at open mics. An unlikely combination, but what happens when the two collide is a well-choreographed dance of two styles.  According to Mike Reling of Eagle 101.5 FM, “It’s music that tells a story by two people who believe what they are saying in the song.  Every song bleeds originality.”  Check out their website to find out more about them

With Special Guest: Bob Marshall

Back by popular demand to open our show is Seymour Lake UMC’s own Bob Marshall.  Bob has been entertaining audiences around the Midwest since 1973 at such venues as The Blue Note Cafe, The Railroad Crossing, The Back Seat Saloon, Union Street, and The Roostertail.  His style is a blend of rural and urban folk and  his  silky  baritone  voice  resonates  like no other!  According  to  Maggie Ferguson of Live from the Livingroom, “Wide experience provided Bob with the insight that folk music does not have to have only a rural texture.  The words that Bob sings are from the heart and the guitar playing is honest enough to lay bare the soul.”
