Music Director

 
Music Director – Job Description - Seymour Lake United Methodist Church – Nov. 2009
Part time: 10 hours per week /44 weeks per year
 
The successful candidate will:
-          be recognizable as a follower of Jesus Christ
-          possess proven musical leadership skills
-          demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
-          be pursuing continuing spiritual and professional growth
-          successfully complete a background check
 
General Responsibilities:
  1. Serve as director for the Music Ministry of the Church
    1. Promote the music ministry of Seymour Lake UMC both within the congregation, and as a means of inviting others to become connected with the congregation. 
    2. Research and develop a plan for implementing a music program for children/incorporating into Sunday worship. 
    3. Establish and maintain a music library and / or resource database for all music groups.
    4. Develop a budget with specific line items for music related needs.
    5. Support and work together with leaders of music groups in the church.
    6. Be a member of the Worship Committee.
    7. Work within the Safe Sanctuary guidelines as developed.
 
  1. Work on special projects as assigned by the pastor and / or SPR Committee.
 
Specific Duties will include but not be limited to:
-          Direct the Choir during 8:45 worship.
-          Rehearse weekly with the Choir (September-June).
-          Assist the Pastor to coordinate special music for 11:00 worship on a weekly basis (and summer worship time).
-          Actively recruit new members for music groups.
-          Be familiar with CCLI and licensing issues.
-          Work together with and support the bell choir director to schedule them to play one Sunday per month.
-          Work together with and support the leader of praise band.
-          Work together with Christian Education Ministry Director to incorporate music into the Sunday School program.
-          Ensure that choir robes are cleaned and maintained as needed.
-          Order music for choir as needed.
-          Attend staff meetings if possible and / or communicate regularly with pastor and office staff.
