REVEREND JANINE PLUM
Pastor Janine describes herself as a “cradle Methodist,” because she was baptized, confirmed, married, and baptized her three children all at Trinity UMC in Flint, MI. Although she drifted away from church in her early adult years, she knows God never stopped attending to her. In 1983, she married her husband, Pete, and two years later they were blessed with Alex, their first son. Janine said, “I took one look at him and the Lord spoke to me through the birth of this child. I found myself praising God for this baby who was ‘fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Still, there would be the birth of two more children, Ben and Hannah, and many more years before Janine would consider the possibility of making Pastoral Ministry a career. As she explains, “I had a job and even though we had been attending church, I didn’t have a personal relationship with God. I didn’t know I could talk to Jesus as a friend, comforter, counselor, and teacher. I had never made Jesus the Lord of my life. But all of that changed in 1999. At that time, Jesus became a very real presence in my life and since then nothing has been the same!”
Since being appointed as our pastor in 2015 and receiving a Master of Divinity Degree from Asbury Theological Seminary that same year (no small feat), Pastor Janine has had one main focus. As she puts it, “We’re not about attracting members and filling seats, but instead we are about making true Christ followers.” This vision has lead us to work toward becoming a church of disciple-making disciples, sent out to bless our neighbors with the love of Jesus.
